The purpose of the fundraising committee is ensure that good governance practices are established and maintained for ensuring that the funds raised are invested in appropriate initiatives.

Short term fundraising needs

Short term fundraising needs and priorities are:

  • To reduce electricity consumption and associated costs as this is the highest monthly cost at present;
  • To adopt a solar energy strategy for reducing electricity costs.  In so doing, we will also be supporting a reduction in the use the earth’s resources in line with the social teachings of the church i.e.Caring for God’s creation and our common home. Please visit the Sustainability Vision page to see our vision for sustainability;
  • To obtain and install an effective burglar alarm system in the Priest’s house as crime levels are significant in the Zandspruit area;
  • To obtain and install a motor for the gate and to ensure that it is installed securely, this will help to increase ensure that the property is secure.
  • In summary, the short terms needs are to address monthly costs and to improve security and safety for the St Josephine Bakhita clergy, staff and community members.

Medium term fundraising Needs

Medium term fundraising needs and priorities are:

  • To raise funds for building a new church and facilities such as a hall and meeting rooms for the community in the medium term. The target timeframe for building the new church is 3 to 5 years so it is hoped that it will be built by 2027. The estimated cost is between R 8 and R10 million.
